AWESOME news – its been too long since a new project for her! Be sure to follow Proxy on TWITTER and FACEBOOK

Named one of the “Seven Fresh Faces of Sundance 2012” by Gen Art, Alexia Rasmussen (Our Idiot Brother, The Comedy, and Mary Not Seen – the short film that would become Martha Marcy May Marlene) has joined the cast of the indie thriller Proxy. Directed by Zack Parker of the critically acclaimed Scalene (review here), which releases everywhere on Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD on July 31st, the film is being produced by Parker’s Along The Track Productions and Faust Checho’s FSC Productions (The Fields). The screenplay was penned by Parker and Kevin Donner and is also set to star Alexa Havins (“Torchwood”, 27 Dresses, When in Rome), Kristina Klebe (Rob Zombie’s Halloween, Peter and Vandy, Adam Green’s “The Diary of Anne Frankenstein” segment of Chillerama), and Joe Swanberg (V/H/S, You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die).

Synopsis:
A very pregnant Esther Woodhouse (Rasmussen) is walking home after her latest OB appointment when she is brutally attacked and disfigured by a hooded assailant. When Esther seeks consolation in a support group, she finds friendship and empathy in Melanie (Havins), another mother scarred with tragedy. Esther soon begins to believe that the horrific event might be a bittersweet act of fate. However, friendship and empathy can be very dangerous things when accepted by the wrong people.

Proxy is a European-style suspense-thriller that promises to challenge the traditional cinematic form. Parker will reunite with The Newton Brothers (Scalene, Detachment, with score contributions to Babel, The Da Vinci Code) to compose the score, and Jim Timperman will return as Director of Photography to lens the film. A notable addition to Parker’s crew is seasoned special effects make-up artist James Ojala (“True Blood”, Hellboy II, Lady in the Water, X-Men: Last Stand).

This is one of those projects that’s a great concept, but then when you start actually telling the story you find out by episide 10 (say) that your Concept doesn’t really have a Meaning. Or an Ending. The fact that Rex in effect becomes a “Jack” and that Rhys is the only character that seems “real” supports the longstanding sense that what’s best about Torchwood is the not-Jack and the not-Gwen.
The story: When convicted child killer Oswald Danes (Pullman) miraculously survives his own execution, the footage holds America transfixed. And then everyone realizes that nobody is dying. The result: a population boom, overnight. With all the extra people, resources are finite. It’s said that in four month’s time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can’t be a natural event – someone’s got to be behind it.
Starring: John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Mekhi Phifer, Alexa Havins, Kai Owen, Bill Pullman.
Directed by: Bharat Nalluri, Billy Gierhart, Guy Ferland, Gwyneth Horder-Payton.
Features: Selected audio commentaries; Character profiles; Special effects feature; Behind-the-scenes special; iTunes intros; Web of Lies motion comic.
